    Questionnaires

    Simple one page structured questionnaire was administered to each market. It included questions on:
    • Location of markets (with geo-references for town/village where available)
    • Condition of market buildings
    • Farm-to-market roads accessibility
    • Sanitary conditions
    • Types of markets: daily/weekly
    • Category of marketers
    • Estimated buying population

    Supervision

    As a part of their daily duties, NRC Supervisors in all 15 counties controled the quality of data collected by monitors (desk review of the forms and field verification). Senior management of the project (NRC and UNHCR) conducted several field visits as part of verification and quality control exercises and assessed some of the markets in order to cross-check the information obtained by monitors.)
    Data Collection Notes

    Data collection was done by NRC monitors and supervisors. NRC monitors were based in the communities across the country. Each market was visited to assess actual situation and fill the questionnaire. Monitors tried to identify the Market Supervisor (or person that was recognized by the community as responsible for the specific market) and conducted the interview with him/her.

    The data were processed by NRC database assistants in Monrovia with technical support and coordination of UNHCR. An application developed in MS Access was used. During the data encoding exercise, data were constantly analysed and checked for correctness and consistency by database specialists.
