Abstract
The unmet need for family planning is a very useful tool in measuring and predicting the contraceptive
needs of a population. Unmet need is a disconnection between women’s fertility preferences and their
contraceptive behavior, which indicates the failure to take necessary action to prevent unwanted
conceptions. The quality of life of a large proportion of humanity during the coming century and the
future size of the national population will depend critically on how quickly the nation can satisfy the
currently unmet needs for family planning. There is great need to intensify reproductive health education
and include population in programs and policies designed to improve family planning practices in Nepal.
