This is the sixth GYTS conducted by Mexico.
The GYTS is a school-based survey which uses a self-administered questionnaire to monitor tobacco use among youth and to guide the implementation and evaluation of tobacco prevention and control programmes.

Scope
GYTS is composed of 56 "core" questions designed to gather data on the following seven domains:
- Knowledge and attitudes of young people towards cigarette smoking
- Prevalence of cigarette smoking and other tobacco use among young people
- Role of the media and advertising in young people’s use of cigarettes
- Access to cigarettes
- Tobacco-related school curriculum
- Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)
- Cessation of cigarette smoking
Countries may add addtional optional questions, such as on shisha use, smokeless tobacco use or e-cigarettes, or country-specific questions.

Sampling
GYTS uses a global standardized methodology that includes a two-stage sample design with schools selected with a probability proportional to enrollment size. The classes within selected schools are chosen randomly and all students in selected classes are eligible to participate in the survey.
A total of 1,495 students participated in the Mexico-Chilpancingo GYTS of which 995 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,984 students participated in the Mexico-Culiacan GYTS of which 1,372 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,704 students participated in the Mexico-Durango GYTS of which 1,158 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,947 students participated in the Mexico-Hermosillo GYTS of which 1,427 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,607 students participated in the Mexico-Leon GYTS of which 1,072 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,495 students participated in the Mexico-Merida GYTS of which 1,051 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,368 students participated in the Mexico-Mexico City GYTS of which 945 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,391 students participated in the Mexico-Monterrey GYTS of which 903 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,867 students participated in the Mexico-Oaxaca GYTS of which 1,299 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,672 students participated in the Mexico-Tepic GYTS of which 1,163 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,667 students participated in the Mexico-Toluca GYTS of which 1,145 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,683 students participated in the Mexico-Veracruz GYTS of which 1,131 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 1,730 students participated in the Mexico-Zacatecas GYTS of which 1,167 were ages 13 to 15 years.
A total of 2,772 students participated in the Mexico-National GYTS of which 1,825 were ages 13 to 15 years.
Chilpancingo: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 72.0%.
Culiacan: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 86.7%.
Durango: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 81.2%.
Hermosillo: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 86.6%.
Leon: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 71.5%.
Merida: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 83.8%.
Mexico City: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 69.9%.
Monterrey: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 73.6%.
Oaxaca: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 80.1%.
Tepic: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 85.4%.
Toluca: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 77.8%.
Veracruz: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 83.8%.
Zacatecas: The overall response rate of all students surveyed was 84.3%.

W1 - The inverse of the probability of selecting the school
W2 - The inverse of the probability of selecting the class within the school
f1 - a school-level nonresponse adjustment factor calculated by school size category (small, medium, large)
f2 - a class adjustment factor calculated by school
f3 - a student-level nonresponse adjustment factor calculated by class
f4 - a post stratification adjustment factor calculated by gender and grade

Data processing
All data processing (scanning, cleaning, editing, and weighting) was conducted at the US Centers for Disease Control.
Data Access
The user undertakes:
(1) to acknowledge the data source.
(2) to share any planned publications with WHO prior to publication.
(3) to offer co-authorship of any reports or publications using the survey results to the coordinator of the survey.
(4) to use the data for non-commercial, not-for-profit public health purposes only.
Publications based on GYTS data should use the following acknowledgement:
