This is the first STEPS conducted by Tonga.
STEPS is a household-based survey to obtain core data on the established risk factors that determine the major burden of NCDs.

Scope
The following topics were included in the survey: tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet, physical activity, history of raised blood pressure. Additionally, the following measures were taken: blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL cholesterol.

Sampling
A multi-stage cluster sample design was used to produce representative data for that age range in Tonga.
