    Abstract

The study evaluates a pilot program implemented in Madhya Pradesh, India, wherein 100 AWCs were convertedinto AWC-cum-Crèches. The AWC-cum-Crèches bring children under 3 years into the fold of the system throughthe provision of crèche facilities in addition to existing pre-school services. The presence of an additional workerwill further allow the introduction of age appropriate stimulation for children under 3 years both at the centre andthrough strengthened outreach activities in conjunction with regularly scheduled community meetings. The mainfocus of the study is the change in early childhood development outcomes with the introduction of early childhoodstimulation as an intervention, in addition to the supplementary nutrition and health services already beingdelivered at the AWC. The key outcomes measured are nutritional status and cognitive development of childrenunder 6 years of age.
