Medium of instruction for the course for which the student is enrolled is to be recorded here. In case subjects are taught in more than one medium, as in the case of many central schools, for example, the medium for largest number of subjects is to be considered. the medium is to be coded as follows :

Hindi - 1
English - 2
predominant language of the state/ut - 3
others - 9

When the medium of instruction is Hindi or English, code 1 or 2 may be recorded respectively. If the predominant language of the state/ut happens to be Hindi, then code 1 may be recorded if the medium of instruction is also in Hindi. In certain cases there may both be a predominant language to be identified easily. the medium of instruction in such cases may be recorded as 'others' if it is not Hindi or English.
