<p><svar a="all" v="CR00A420"><span class="em">Question 13: Marital Status</span><br /><br />This question has as its objective obtaining the current marital situation of all persons 12 years old or older at the moment of the census in relation with the laws and customs of the country (not the civil state). Together with the relation or relationships, it permits identifying different family nucleuses in the same home.<br /><br />[To the right of the text is a form.]<br /><br />Ask the question as it appears in the questionnaire, reading each one of the alternatives until getting an affirmative response.<br /><br />Six types of marital state situations have been considered:<br /><br />[All marital situations end in "o(a)" indicating that the person could be man or woman.]<br /><br /><div class="i1"><span class="em">1. Consensual Union</span>: A person who lives in marital state without having been legally or civilly married with a person with whom they coexist ["de facto union"].<br /><br /><span class="em">2. Married</span>: A person who has been legally married and lives with the spouse or mate or is temporarily separated for special purposes like work, sickness, incarceration, etc.<br /><br /><span class="em">3. Divorced</span>: a person who having dissolved their marriage legally, has not married again nor lives in "de facto" union.<br /><br /><span class="em">5. Single</span>: a person who has not been married and never has lived in "de facto" union.</div><br /><br />If a person is encountered who says that their last and only marriage was annulled, they are classified according to the marital state that they had before the annulled marriage.<br /><br /><span class="em">Important</span><br /><br />The following questions (14 to 18) correspond to the economic characteristics of the population 12 years old or older. This part requires a careful understanding of a series of concepts related among themselves and that should not be confused, with the purpose of collecting the correct information.<br /></svar>
