Informal Sector Survey [hh/iss]
The Kenya Informal Cross Border Trade is the Second round of ICBT surveys conducted in 2012. The ICBT was designed and implemented by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. It was designed to monitor informal cross border trade of commodities between countries.

The structure of the ICBT survey 2012 was based on major border control points, same as the previous survey done in 2011.
The study collects data on types of commodities, price, quantity, country of origin or destination and mode of transport.

The survey was done by teams of interviewers posted at every border control point. Each team comprised of 3 interviewrers and one asaupervisor. The role of the supervisor was to ensure that the interviewers collected the correct information by checking the entries in the questionnaire, doing preliminary editing of the completed questionnaires. The supervisor has the responsibility of compiling field progress reports and submitting completed questionnaires to the Head office.
Interviewers were assigned to selected major border points. Supervisorsi were assigned to the intervieweres. Interviews were conducted in the languages understood by the people who were being interviewed, English and Kiswahili.

Data shall be used for statistical purposes only and not for investigation of specific individuals or organizations or any other purpose. c. The following general cost-sharing principles will apply to the dissemination of data:
a. Open access data (Public use) - data posted in the KNBS website for download will be available at no charge.
b. Registered access (Licensed) data - data will be availed to sponsors as per agreement between the sponsor and KNBS. A sponsor is any party who contributes directly either materially or financially towards a data production process.
c. Users requesting for specialized services are expected to negotiate and agree on a cost recovery agreement with the Director General.
d. KNBS may levy fees on statistical information products depending on the type of product, effort expended and the dissemination medium.
