Espacios geográficos que delimita el instituto nacional de estadística, con el fin de homogenizar criterios y hacer comparables las diferentes encuestas.

- área urbana: poblaciones con 2.000 o más habitantes.
- área rural: poblaciones con menos de 2.000 habitantes y área dispersa.
