Abstract
Every society has some norms and responsibilities which are decided by the gender of a person- male and female. In a stereotyped society like Indian society, females are not treated at par with their counterparts. Yet in spite of so many constitutional provisions for equal remuneration for equal and same type of work, females are given less remuneration. If we analyze the data in Punjab, then we will come to know that in casual, part time and temporary type of employment, the major share comprises of females. This is because of the reason that females have less unity, less bargaining power. They are comparatively more submissive than males. They neither demand high wages nor for extra benefits. This is why employers find it easy to employ female workers. It is with this background that this paper has been written taking evidence from Punjab.
