Abstract
National Socio-Economic Survey explained that breastfeeding charts that declined during the last three years. In 2006, 64.1% of mothers exclusively breastfed their babies, and in 2007 fell to 62.2%, and 2008 to 56.2%. Factors that lead to exclusive breastfeeding is not optimal, among other factors the mother own health, and infant formula manufacturers. Methods: This research is a qualitative case study design, in which researchers explore the natural knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of mothers in exclusive breastfeeding. Factors predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing to describe and provide detailed information on exclusive breastfeeding in infants. Result: The results predisposing factors such as knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the mother, where the majority of women still do not understand about the benefi ts of exclusive breastfeeding. Employment, education, and number of children under fi ve years old as well as a predisposing factor in exclusive breastfeeding. Enabling factors such as early initiation of breastfeeding, the place of delivery, and the availability of lactation rooms. Status of maternal health, family support and delivery helper as a factor reinforcing the exclusive breastfeeding. Recommended research: improving knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of mothers in exclusive breastfeeding; MoH should promote exclusive breastfeeding of more intensive, and create a message and get a simple but easily digested and understood by the common people; monitor and enforce discipline healthcare facilities to the health involved in promoting infant formula with strict sanctions; MoH should crack down on companies that produce infant formula and other food additives that break the rules that have been defi ned; government enforce rules on the provision of a lactation room at work and facilitate the availability of lactation rooms in public places.
