Abstract
The Brazilian government has invested efforts toward solutions for two major problems that deeply hinder the development of the country. These problems are known as social exclusion and digital exclusion and are characterized primarily by the absence of access to general information and digital information. The goal of this work is to describe technological solutions that enable social and digital inclusion through the use of interactive television, allowing Internet access, distance learning, electronic government, among other services. Interactive TV lets a user select an instructive TV module, watch it as many times as he/she wishes, being able to interact with an instructor, therefore helping the learning process. Most of the poor Brazilian communities are organized in large concentrations of residencies per square meter, and this setting favors the deployment of wireless ad hoc networks as an infrastructure for interactive channel to be used by the Brazilian digital television system.
