Abstract | This District Development plan (DDP) is developed as part of the second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS2) to be implemented from 2013/14 fiscal year to 2017/18. The DDP outlines the development aspirations of the people of Nyamasheke in line with national orientation provided through the revised Vision 2020 targets and the high level objectives stipulated in the thematic areas of EDPRS2 and identified in the various sector strategies at the national level. Specifically the DDP aims to support EDPRS 2 objectives of rapid growth of 11.5% and poverty reduction to below 30% of the population. This is to be achieved through four thematic areas of: Economic Transformation, Rural Development, Accountable Governance and Productivity and Youth Employment. The District Development Plan was developed in a consultative process with key stakeholders in the district including the District Executive leadership and management, Joint Action Development Forum (JADF) focus group discussions which include civil society and the private sector and the district council. Consultations have been conducted with the population up to community level to collect and develop the district priorities and interventions. From the implementation of the DDP in EDPRS 1 some key achievements were realized especially in the sector of agriculture, electrification, education, health, environmental protection and financial inclusion |
