This paper provides the estimates of average years of schooling in India for individuals aged 15 and above. The estimates are based on the nationally representative household surveys conducted by the National Sample Survey Organization, Government of India. We use the four rounds of employment and unemployment survey conducted in years 1993-94, 1999-2000, 2004-05 and 2009-10. We find India’s average attainment is increased by about two years during the period 1993 to 2009.
