Agricultural Census [ag/census]
A census of agriculture was conducted in the United Kingdom of Libya in 1960; subsequently, two censuses of agriculture were conducted in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the first in 1974 and the second, to which data here refer, in 1987.

The scope of the Agricultural Census includes the following:

- Fragmentation of holdings
- Holders by main type of activity
- Farm population
- Land Use
- Irrigation
- Temporary crops
- Permanent crops
- Livestock
- Machinery/equipment
Coverage
The census covered the entire country.
Holding - is defined as a technoeconomic unit of agricultural production wholly or partly used for crop production or livestock keeping or tree crops growing or a mixture of land, livestock and tree crops, operated as an independent economic unit. Economic units raising race horses only were not included in the census.

A list of agricultural holders and holdings was obtained from the 1984 Population Census.
