In its endeavor to provide the basic statistical data on the Palestinian economy, the PCBS has conducted the twelfth round of the Finance and Insurance survey for 2012, as the reference year. The PCBS also carries out a series of annual economic surveys including transport, storage and communication, industry, services, internal trade, and construction- contractors surveys
This report comprises the survey data for 2012, presented in tables. Enterprises engaged in financial intermediary activities (Palestinian Monetary Authority, banks, Palestine Exchange, stock market brokers, and insurance companies) were fully covered by this survey.
The results of the economic surveys conducted in various fields constitute the foundations for the compilation of Palestinian National Accounts. It is hoped that they will also meet the various needs and expectations of users in both private and public sectors.
The questionnaire included these variables:
- The persons engaged in enterprise and compensation of these employees.
- Value of output from main activity and secondary activity.
- Value of financial investment.
- Production inputs of goods and services.
- Payments and transfers.
- Taxes on production.
- Assets and net additions on those assets and depreciation for 2012

Scope
The objective of the survey was to obtain data on:
- Number of intermediations enterprises and persons engaged by activity.
- Value of output, intermediate consumption and stock.
- Value added components.
- Payments and transfers.
- Assets and capital formation.

Coverage
Remaining West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The survey covered all enterprises engaged in the activities classified under the tabulation category K according to ISIC-4, excluding money exchangers and insurance agents. There was full coverage of all enterprises engaged in the relevant activities.

Sampling
The number of establishments in finance and insurance survey for the base year 2012 - frame (46) - which form the whole frame distributed in all West bank and Gaza Strip governorates depending on the 2012 establishments census.
Sample design: for all enterprises engaged in economic activities has been done, without sampling techniques.
Response rate is 98%
The sampling weight of the enterprise is the mathematical turned of the possibility selection of that enterprise. It is necessary to use weights in the estimation of the survey society because of the differentiation in the possibility of enterprises' selection from another one so the weights were adjusted to compensate for non-responded enterprises.
Survey instrument
There are three forms for financial and insurance survey 2012, the first one is related to banking sector, the second is related to insurance corporation, the third is related to stock market. The questionnaire used for this survey has much in common with other questionnaires in the economic survey series. The design of the questionnaire takes into account major economic variables pertaining to the examined phenomenon and meets the needs of the Palestinian National Accounts and Balance of Payments:
- Number of employees in a company and their compensations.
- The output of the main and second activities.
- Goods production inputs.
- Various payments and transfers.
- Indirect taxes.

Fieldwork operations:
Due to the fact that the survey frame is small no recruitment and training for field workers was made excluding one fieldworker for Gaza Strip, but for the West Bank the technical staff conducted the survey.
Office operations:
After the fieldwork operations, the collected questionnaires were sent to the officers to be audited and coded.
Data processing
Data processing:
For insuring quality and consistency of data a set of measures were taken in to account for strengthening accuracy of data as follows:
- Preparing data entry program before data collection for checking readiness of the program for data entry.
- A set of validation rules were applied on the program for checking consistency of data.
- Efficiency of the program was checked through pre-testing in entering few questionnaires, including incorrect information for checking its efficiency, in capturing these information.
- Well trained data keyers were selected and trained for the main data entry.
- Weekly or by weekly data files were received by project management for checking accuracy and consistency, notes of correction are provided for data entry management for correction.
Data appraisal
The findings of the survey were not affected by statistical errors due to covering all of the census in the survey.
